Hitting the Home Button.

Ready or not, it’s here.

It’s that time of year. Regardless of what you believe or don’t believe, regardless if you have kids or not, regardless if you choose to participate, it’s the time of the year when things get a little cray cray. And yes, I am referring to the holidays. And we also can’t ignore that many people are feeling a little bit post-partum; the election still stings for some. Some are suffering silently. Others are finding articles to support their beliefs and some are writing letters. I’ve already had many offers to fly here or there, to support this or that, to write letters, to cast my body parts as part of an art project and I feel like the invitations to be angry come in every day. But for me, I’ve been hitting the home button a lot.

Hitting the home button is like going towards your north star. Gravitating towards your mission statement ¬†or the elevator pitch for your life if you will. During this time of year when a million different things and people will ask for your time I suggest hitting the home button. If someone asks you to do something (even if you love it or you’re really really good at it) ask yourself if it supports where you are and where you want to be. ¬†Usually shop for your ENTIRE extended family but don’t feel up for it this year? Re-evaluate. Always make all the best holiday treats but can’t face an apron or the oven? Heard of Whole Foods? Everyone feels pulled in many directions but we are all in charge. No one is the boss of you. When you need it, hit the home button. Check in. Re-negotiate. Re-evaluate. Whatever you call it, just try it. You’re the boss. Even when you don’t feel like it.
